Our newest journals are finally here! First came our original sewing journal, three cover designs and pre-printed journaling pages which I had been dreaming and planning for two years before I could finally launch them in September 2015. This month sees the newest additions to our range with the launch of three brand new journals; Knitting and Crochet, Craft and Dressmaking have now joined the Sew Crafty party.
Our Dressmaking journal is an extension on our sewing journal for all us sewists who need to plan garment silhouettes and make detailed notes to take to the fabric store. We wanted to have a place to sketch out garments without a ‘skinny’ or ‘plus size’ base so we chose a simple mannequin form to sketch your ideas over. There is space around the edges for notes and a whole lined page for more extensive note taking.
In between the planning pages are the record pages. Printed with allocated space for swatches, where and what notions were needed. A space for reflecting on how the project went and what could be done differently next time.
Our most requested journal after our first journals where released was Knitting and Crochet, It was also the one I had the least experience to be able to design. I am reasonably handy with knitting needles or crochet hook but I am by no means a knitter. That is where Mum and her lifetime of woolly endeavours came in. She was the one who helped the knitting and crochet journal come to life.
We decided that the notes page ws still important , but rather than a blank page for sketching, a grid for planning designs or making notes of stitch numbers ,would be more useful.
The record pages also got the once over with an area for ball bands, more detailed prompts and as always an area for reflection on how the project turned out.
I have to admit the Craft journal was a purely selfish pursuit on my behalf. I wanted a beautiful journal to record my own crafting projects in that would look great in my handbag. It was the cover design that I designed that then went on to be the inspiration behind all the covers for this set of journals.
This journal has the same notes and grid pages as the knitting journal but again we have tailored the record pages to be more helpful to crafters.
The whole idea behind all our journals is to create a memory of each piece you create, improve for next time and document your progress. to help you remember where you added a row, bought that to die fro fabric or the moment you found a new favourite adhesive. This is a possess my Mum has been doing since she was a teenager, It is so fun to go through her old note books and read all the notes of things she has made over the years. I hope that one day my kids will enjoy going through my journals as much as I am filling them.
So there you have our newest set of journals, We really hope you will find one that you love.
I would love to know if there are any products you would like to see us create at Sew Crafty and don’t forget to get in on all the gossip first on Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest @sewcraftyshop
